The Zebecks – A Scottish Sensation
Written by River Radio on 09/07/2021
The Zebecks’s first original song and second single ‘Violet’ released on the 25th of June 2021. It has already received airplay on BBC Music Introducing.
The track was written in the summer of 2019 and the boys debuted it at different venues throughout Moray later that year. It quickly became a fan favourite, a competition winner and crowds picked up the lyrics incredibly fast (despite the song being unreleased). It’s a lively and upbeat summer tune with influence drawn from Weezer, Pixies, The Clash and The Snuts to name a few.
Violet follows their debut single ‘Concrete’ which was released in February 2021. Both tracks come from their upcoming demo EP ‘Out of the Dust’ which was recorded at Unity Recording Studio in the Highlands. This proved especially challenging as COVID restrictions meant that they had to split in half to record the five songs on two separate days; one for bass and drums, and a second for guitars and vocals.
The Zebecks are a four-piece indie rock band from Elgin in the North-East of Scotland. They consist of Daniel Thomson (Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), Hayden Peace (Lead Guitar), Max Robertson (Bass Guitar) and Aiden Smith (Drums). The band were making an effort to break through in their local music scene before the UK-wide lockdown hit which resulted in the cancellation of all of their approaching gigs. Determined to not let it get them down, the boys designed a band t-shirt in lockdown and managed to sell-out both the first batch of 40 and the second batch of 50. The lads used this money to record their upcoming demo EP ‘Out of the Dust’ to which ‘Violet’ is the second single.
